There may not be any elk in Elk City, but there is a herd just outside of town. Plan on a couple of days in this fascinating Western town as you explore the farming museum, the Route 66 museum, the shops in charming downtown, and the residential streets that boast numerous elegant and well-preserved homes from many decades past. Elk City offers shopping, a wooden carousel, and wildlife watching venues that include a lake just outside of town, a major state park a few minutes' drive to the north, and access to the Washita National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for birds and birders alike. Chinese restaurants, fresh ice cream at Braum's, and mouth-watering steaks are just some of the provender available in town, and after dinner there are a number of commodious hotels or B&Bs at which to relax.
