Stop 20: Ackley Park and Route 66 Museum

Directions: Return north on OK 6 to 3rd Street in Elk City. Go left on 3rd to Pioneer Road. Park is on the right; museum is well signed and across from the park.

The park has a pond that attracts a few wintering and migrant waterfowl. Trees around the pond have the usual complement of urban birds such as jays and cardinals. Of particular interest is the wooden carousel. Across from the park is an extensive museum dedicated to Route 66, with replica displays that represent all eight states that the country's most famous highway passed through. A farm museum across from the Route 66 museum has an excellent array of vintage windmills and farm equipment.
